Blitz Week - January 8, 2025, Methods to Increase Students' Sense of Belonging

Because loneliness and social isolation are significant concerns for our students, I would like to offer some suggestions for how to encourage interaction among the students in your classes to help them feel more connected to their classmates. Loneliness and social isolation are significant concerns for today's students. Students who don't feel connected to campus are more likely to drop out of school. Helping students make connections with their classmates and other students in their department can help increase their sense of belonging and their pride in being part of the Racer family, which can increase
retention. I will offer some suggestions of ways to help students feel more comfortable interacting with each other, both inside and outside of the classroom.

Blitz Week - January 8, 2025, Project-Based Learning in General Education Courses

This session will share how project-based learning in general education classes can develop students' critical thinking skills. Join to learn more about "Thinking Outside the Essay," and how this illustrates how students practice both cognitive and metacognitive skills associated with critical thinking, as well as how they connect the material in a general education classroom to their own experiences. This session is particularly helpful in humanities and social science general education courses, but will also apply to any course that utilizes essays aimed to assess students' critical thinking.

Students look to faculty for all kinds of information, especially when it comes to their careers. Join us to discover how you can leverage career services to enhance your curriculum, including the newest information about career planning for the traditional student, tools that you can use directly, as well as how you can partner with Career Services on various career-related programming and activities.

Blitz Week-Jan. 8, 2025, Panel: Things to Consider When Advising Military-Connected Students

This panel will provide an overview of how the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) processes and views

college semesters for military-connected students monetarily, allowing us to better advise military-
connected students on how to schedule or drop classes. Join us to discover the methods that the VA

uses to determine how benefits are allotted, including the requirements for the eighth most commonly
used educational benefits. Emphasis will be placed on advising students using chapter 33 and chapter
35 benefits in relation to less than full term, summer, and winter classes. This panel will make it easier
for you to help military-connected students make, change, and adjust their schedules accordingly.
