Join us for this “Chatty Hour” to get innovative strategies to help you optimize the capabilities of GAI in your work! Each session in this hour will be packed with powerful and practical strategies that will be provided by your fellow faculty members from different disciplines. Join us to gain insights into how your colleagues are harnessing the power of GAI in their academic endeavors.

We look forward to interacting with you during the following sessions that are described below!

Using Cat-GPT to Introduce Students to Responsible Use of AI

Interested in introducing students to generative AI but afraid they will use it irresponsibly? Use this session to learn how to teach students to distinguish inaccurate or incomplete information from helpful responses while also exploring ethical use of AI, all through a fun, humorous, tool.

Generative AI can be an incredibly useful tool for students, but it is not infallible. Join us in this session to explore the use of Cat-GPT, a humorous and more lighthearted version of Chat-GPT, to teach students about responsible use of generative AI, including evaluating output and examining ethical implications of using AI tools. Included in the session will be suggested prompts for students as well as suggested discussion questions.

Objectives

Implement a humorous tool for generative AI in the classroom to teach students responsible use of said tool.
Evaluate resources that encourage creative use of generative AI.
Examine ethical implications of using generative AI.

Using ChatGPT for Student Writing and Revision

How can ChatGPT guide students' improvement of writing/revision skills?

Asking the right questions via ChatGPT, students can gain insights that guide them to self-improvement of their writing. Join us in this Generative AI session and get opportunities to do the following.

Objectives

Get acquainted with the basics of ChatGPT.
Explore ways that ChatGPT can be applied to improving writing/revising skills.
Review samples of student writing/revision using ChatGPT.
Develop action plans that involve students in analyzing their writing strengths and weaknesses and track their progress as they implement ChatGPT as a tool for skill improvement.

With the ever-changing landscape of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) and so many webinars and publications, which seems like information overload, how can each of us respond in a way that seems authentic to us while exploring the possibilities of the technology? How does GAI impact teaching and learning? How can we respond to the reality that GAI exists? What steps can we take to go from one end of the response continuum to the other?

Join us in this session to discover a framework that includes a continuum of possible ways to respond to GAI, from ignoring GAI (not recommended) to using GAI to redesign and redefine learning experiences.
